Please join us for an organizational meeting…

Birmingham Museum of Art

6:30-7:00 PM in the studio downstairs

Stay for a night of fun in the open galleries!

·  Fill out a survey letting us know what workshops and activities you would most like to attend!  We are here for YOU!

• Meet monthly at the Birmingham Museum of Art during the First Thursdays?  Hold full hands-on workshop every other month?   A simple, hands-on activity/lesson swap every month? Let’s decide!
•  Design a t-shirt, bumper sticker or window cling as a fund-raiser (Got Art? ,etc.) maybe sell in the museum gift shop or local artsy venues like galleries and specialty shops (to pay for workshop expenses or local exhibitions?)
• Glass- fusing workshop after the winter holidays? (two members already willing to host this one)
• Set pd goals, such as classroom observation opportunities?
• Opportunities to exhibit teacher-made artwork?
• Set an amount for annual dues: proposed $5-$10 dollars maximum to assure no one is excluded due to cost (We will vote on this.)

Casey (middle school art teacher)  and Lindsay (elementary school art teacher) are now serving the AAEA Board jointly as Birmingham Area Representatives!

BAEA Representatives!

At the Fall Art Conference we had 2 people appointed as the Birmingham Area Representatives...please welcome Casey Williamson and Lindsay Mouyal!

They will be heading up the meetings/workshops but we will keep this blog up and running so check back often!

Museum Contact has been made...

I have emailed Suzy Harris at the Birmingham Museum of Art with the idea of meeting on the First Thursday of each month...the galleries are open from 5:00-9:00 with lectures on special exhibits.

The idea is to have a workshop from 4:00-5:30ish and then socialize/tour the exhibits at the museum.  The workshops could coincide with the exhibits to enhance our classroom lessons...we could use some of the January workshop to mount, label and submit the Youth Art Month entry from our schools...

I will keep you updated on the progress but for now put Thursday, December 1st on your calendar for our first BAEA workshop...details to follow!

BAEA - making a come back!!

Welcome!

After spending the weekend at the Alabama Art Educators Association Conference a group of us decided it was time to get the Birmingham Art Educators back up and running.

We will be making plans for monthly workshop/meetings for anyone in Birmingham and surrounding cities.  We need this time together to share ideas and re-charge!  We are hoping to start in December!

If you are interested in presenting a workshop...simple to complex...please reply to this post and I will get with you for details!
